This is Aleppo, she’s a 10-year-old girl living in Jabal Amman. I met her while walking around the area – she was playing with a boy around her age (he didn’t want to be photographed) and I think they were walking home together. Aleppo didn’t tell me when she left Syria, but the majority of Jabal Amman’s population are urban refugees from neighboring countries. About 84% of Jordan’s refugee communities live in urban areas, which is why you’ll find that many of those that live in Jordan assimilate quickly — Palestinians, for example, always preferred to live in urban environments, they believed it was a way of living a dignified life.
